What a full day! I started my day by meeting up with a few other people and we rode the bus and tram to Geneva. We saw the Jet d'eau, the fountain that shoots water 140 meters (about 450 feet) up in the air. It was on Lake Geneva, a beautiful HUGE lake. We saw also the fountain that was in the movie Syriana, and some other landmarks of downtown. We returned to CERN in time for a reception of wine and cheese (Swiss cheese=yummy!) with the whole group and a tour.
Because it is the 4th of July, a few Americans, along with people from Kenya, Uganda, Finland, and Portugal went to the Reformation Wall to have more wine, cheese, bread and chocolate to celebrate, or at least that was our excuse. We had a great, relaxing evening.
My mentor from NIU, Dhiman Chakraborty, is here working at CERN. I ran into him a couple of times today. It's an odd feeling to come to someplace like this and run into someone that I know.
And now it is almost midnight, and we start in earnest at 8:30 am, so this is a short update.
